PETALING JAYA: The authorities conducted 60,528 checks to ensure compliance of the conditional movement control order (MCO) guidelines on the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri (May 24), according to Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Despite it being a public holiday, he said the compliance operations task force, headed by the police and involving 2,876 teams consisting of 15,023 officers, inspected 3,675 supermarkets, 3,102 restaurants, 330 hawkers, 753 factories, and 3,742 banks.

Inspections were also conducted at 1,022 land transport terminals, 168 water transport terminals, and 101 air transport terminals, he said.

Ismail added that 23,633 private vehicles, 1,318 public vehicles, and 19 vessels were also inspected.


“1,191 markets, 4,720 places of worship, 1,392 places of leisure and 247 construction sites were also checked,” he said during his daily briefing at Putrajaya on Monday (May 25).

Ismail said 470 individuals were arrested on the first day of Hari Raya, where 87 individuals were remanded and 23 individuals were allowed bailed on offenses related to the conditional MCO standard operating procedure (SOP).

The police also issued 383 compounds to individuals who were caught flouting the guidelines.

“Abide by the SOP and rules. Cooperation and self-discipline from everyone are very important in the war against Covid-19,” he said.

Ismail added that 162 roadblocks were conducted to curb interstate travel, in which 127,552 vehicles were checked.

On May 24, as many as 1,243 vehicles with the intention of the traveling interstate were told to turn back by the authorities, he said, pointing out that the figure was 1,158 the previous day (May 23).

According to Ismail, the state that recorded the highest attempts of interstate travel was Selangor at 685, followed by Negri Sembilan at 133 and Pahang (72).

“The police will take stern action against those who try to travel interstate without approval, including issuing compounds,” he said, adding that 214 compounds were issued at roadblocks.

Meanwhile, five public sanitation operations, four in Sabah and one in Sarawak took place on Sunday (May 24).

“Thank you to all of our front liners, including firefighters, town council officers, police, Malaysian Civil Defence Force, the Armed Forces, Rela and everyone else involved in carrying out their duties on the first day of Hari Raya,” he added.
